Dreampi and Retropi in same box?

Hello everyone. Recently got my Dreampi up and running and have been enjoying it a lot.

Now that the Raspberry Pi has secured a spot in my entertainment center, I was wondering if there was a way to dual boot into Retropi as well? Since its primary focus will always be the Dreampi, I figured it would be best to ask here.

Ideally, having the box be available for Dreampi by default, but a way to launch Retropi would be perfect way to utilize all the additional space I have on the SD card.

Thanks! :D

I think you have to partition your sd card using berryboot. I've never used it before but that seems to be the best way to have both on the same card.

Thanks. I'm new to Raspberry Pi ownership.

For anyone else interested: I just watched this video on dual booting using berryboot as suggested by Xiden.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGCeLct5SUg

This evening im going to use this method and try to get this running. Berryboot will auto run its selected OS if not prompted. That will allow me to default run dreampi, but also run Retropi when wanted.

This should be fun, will keep you updated. :D

Alternatively, you could install RetroPie on the existing DreamPi installation. Instructions can be found here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-se ... stallation

This is way over my head. Like I said earlier, i'm new to using Raspberrys and would like to understand this at some point, but I'm not there. Thanks for the suggestion.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I've been messing with berryboot for the past few hours and have hit a wall.

In order to make dreampi OS work for berryboot, I need to convert it into a SquashFS compatible image. Looks like a linux machine is necessary for the proper converting software, which I don't have. Does anyone have the proper tools to convert dreampi into a image that berryboot can see? Has anyone tried this before?

Switching SD cards is an option, but I already have a 32gig card, which is more than enough room for both. Not to mention the convenience.

Just a quick update on this.

So I installed Raspbian on my raspberrypi3, which is a linux program. I tried using these two sites with directions to use this software to convert .img files to squashfs compatible images:
http://www.howtogeek.com/141325/how-to- ... berryboot/
https://developer-blog.net/en/convert-o ... berryboot/

I cannot get DreamPi 1.6 to convert using these methods. Maybe it cannot be done and maybe I just cant figure it out. Raspbian wont seem to recognize the img no matter what I do.

I also looked into NOOBS, which is a dual boot program. Unfortunately it looks like this also only accepts a predetermined list of OS's that can be installed and DreamPi is obviously not there.

I'm still hopeful that someday we can figure this out as I can only image I'm not the only DreamPi user who would like to accomplish this. Till then I might spend 8$ on a second micro SD card and just swap them.

I agree. I also would like this kind of 'feature'' it would be handy for people without many micro SD cards.

I was able to get DreamPi 1.6 working through BerryBoot today, using the instructions here:

http://www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/b ... tributions

The basic steps I followed were:

1. Transfer the DreamPi image to the Raspbian instance already running on my Raspberry Pi (I did this through SFTP, but you could also do it through a USB card)
2. Install kpartx and squashfs-tools on Raspbian, via apt-get
3. Run the instructions at the above link (be sure to read the first "Note" on that page - it affected me! Also, the "mksquashfs" step stopped prematurely for me on the first attempt, but a second try worked fine.)
4. Copy the final image to a FAT32-formatted SD card
5. Reboot into the BerryBoot menu, and choose to Edit the menu
6. Long-click the Add OS option, and choose to install from USB
7. Choose your new BerryBoot version of DreamPi, and a few minutes later it will be imported and available to boot

Hopefully this helps others.
