Rare demo Dreamcast unit? Need info/translation!

Post#1 » Wed May 03, 2017 2:07 am

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've posted. But I'm hoping to get more information from the community on this.

I have a buddy who's a big Dreamcast nut and collector like most of us here. He bought this particular unit on eBay a while ago, and had no idea what it was, or used for. He did his own research, reaching out to several Dreamcast aficionados on the net (including a former SEGA employee), and he found out that it is 1 of 4 units that were handmade for the sole purpose of testing beta versions of Shenmue at a corporate event at SEGA in Japan. You can see it came with a copy of 'What's Shemmue?'.

Supposedly, #1 and #4 were destroyed, somehow for whatever reason. As you can see this is #3 of "said" 4 units. #2 has yet to surface.

He also says there are some unidentified demo files on the VMU. I'm waiting for him to send me a screenshot.

Here is the eBay posting... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dreamcast-de ... true&rt=nc

And here are some pics my buddy sent me the other day.

See how ports C and D are blocked off? :?:

Does anyone recognize this?
More importantly, can someone please translate the Japanese text written on the console, controllers and VMU??

Thanks! :)

The white letters on the console say Dreamcast Trial Edition

The 2 red lines next to the phone say something about setting the dial tone to pulse for a network connection, the rest I have not idea as the picture is blurry
We are SEGA generation.

Edit: listing says;
Added free white VMU. Working as is

So it's probably nothing

The saves are still on the VMU according to him. He'll be sending me screenshots soon.
