Dreamcast disc tray lid started to make a squeaking sound

Post by VirtuaShenmue »

Hello

After playing yesterday (another hot summer day), I noticed that the Dreamcast disc tray lid, started to make a squeaking sound when you open or close it.
I'm talking about the lid, not the disc drive.

It seems that it comes from the spring.
It's annoying because it's the first time in 20 years that it does this.

Is there a way to fix, possibly without adding grease or something?
Thanks

The squeak sound will be coming from friction, either the spring rubbing against some plastic, or the plastic on the lid rubbing against the plastic of the case. You need to pinpoint the exact cause in order to figure out if there is a solution. If its the spring, maybe you can gently bend it so it is not rubbing and making the squeak. Otherwise, that is why people use lubricants - there is friction and the lubricant lessens the friction.
