Here is a pinout for making a pseudo analog dreamcast controller. This will map Y A X B, to, Up Down Left Right. At the moment I know this to only be useful for the game Bangai-O with firing directions changed in game settings.
I used a 360 stick because thats what I had 10 years ago. If there is a smaller stick out there now that uses the same type of dual pot design, please post it in the comments because there isnt a lot of room for placing the stick in the DC controller. Plus it sticks out kinda high.
You will also need a small variable resistor. I use one of those small ones that solder in a motherboard. Set the variable resister to 6.34 kohms and adjust if needed. You should be able to use normal resistors but i used this to test and I kept it in. Also, i got this reading off of a cheap multimeter so it may not be 100% accurate (another reason why I am suggesting the variable resistor). The resistor is used to connect the ground from the DC controller to the two 5V connections on the 360 sensor. I just bridge the 5V connections.
Im using ceramic coated wire in the one picture ................ I do not recomend that lol. Just use normal wire.
Yikes!! Isn't it great looking at your shitty solder work from over 10 years ago lol.
Gluegun fun
Edit :
Im sharing this in response to a comment on this thread. I thought I'd share how I smooth out the analog control :

Also, here is another much better mod :

Quase igual ao meu! Fiz do mesmo jeito a alguns anos, a única diferença, é que não precisa de tensão,apenas soldar nos dois polos, também coloquei para controlar os gatilhos e apertar o gatilho no analógico!

sorry, I used the translator and sometimes it throws out meaningless words, your diagram is very good, interesting mod!! you don't need to use voltage, just divert the rails like I did, I wanted to create a diagram for mine but I don't have timerudiment wrote:Not sure what you wrote, but Im posting this as a response to a comment on that thread. I said that your Mod is the same as mine, I posted it here earlier, I did it 3 years ago, I used the Ps2 analogue, I did it exactly the same way, but I didn't use voltage, I just soldered it to the poles of the buttons and triggers!
when you press the analog stick, it triggers!

Re: Pseudo dual analog pinout
im not using voltage. im connecting the ground of the controller to the 5v pins on the stick. I use the resistor because it smooths the transistion from button to button. This makes the stick feel more legit.
You should post a tutorial. I'd like to see how you did your mod. especially if you have the triggers hooked up as well. That would be cool for outtrigger

Re: Pseudo dual analog pinout
This seems to be a good replacement stick. Adafruit sells them with a breakout board. Hell of alot smaller than the 360 stick im using. https://www.adafruit.com/product/2765?g ... gIM5PD_BwE
It's also at aliexpress. They have them with and without a switch :
FJ08K Joystick Switch with B10K Potentiometer
FJ08K-S Joystick Switch with B10K Potentiometer and tact switch
Here is a cad of a standard sized stick for comparison :
