Now you see, for those who don't know, I don't always use the screen name "game player s". But, apparently that's not been terribly obvious until now.:

whoa people were getting a bit miffed over on assembler  talking about this thread/dev kit etc

I hope all these shenanigans don't stop the possibility of System Shock 2 finally being playable on the Dreamcast that would be awesome!

I actually played Half Life for the first time on DC not long after it became widely available (I am not much of a PC gamer so never bothered before) and played it all the way through to completion and enjoyed every minute of a truly great game, yes the loading times were bad, it crashed a few times and the save file was huge but I enjoyed it. I would love to play SS2 in the same way as I find playing unreleased/new games on the Dreamcast make it feel current and relevant next to my newer machines.

So good luck to ya Gameplayer_S / Gamer_s hope you get it running even if it isn't for this years birthday!

So... I finally happened across this thread... Interesting to see that someone else seems to have very similar stuff on a devkit to what I found on mine (a very early Thief 2 and a possibly playable System Shock 2)... Hrm...

Perhaps I should fire up my PC that has a SCSI card and try to dump the hard drive...

:D

I'm going to go see what System Shock 2 and Theif 2 are.

This sounds amazing!

It seems that your dev kits are from one develop group ... BlueCrab , I know you have enough skills to dump it and make it work so It would be awesome to play SS2 on dc bacause we are waiting fo this for long time .

Awesome! So wait... you found the exact same stuff on your Katana? Or different game files? Very curious, because the Ebay seller I bought my Dev Kit from had two dev kits listed.

I haven't looked at the list of files on my devkit for a long time (its just been sitting, unplugged for a few years now). I've had it for a while now (I want to say I bought it in 2006 or early 2007), and pretty much its just been a conversation piece since then. A while back I had thought about dumping the drive and handing it off to some people who would know what to do with it, but never got around to it...

All I really remember is that it had two directories on it... One for System Shock 2, and one for Thief 2. System Shock 2 had a 0winceos.bin file in it (so there was hope for it to work), and Thief 2 looked like it was just a PC install of the game. I never really went anywhere with it after that point.

That would be in the same time frame that I bought my dev kit. So here's the obvious question. Did you buy yours from someone on Ebay who had it listed as a BIN or as an auction? And do you happen to remember what the price was?

Happy Birthday 11th Dreamcast!

game_player_s has released the betas.

Download them here:http://dreamcast-talk.com/beta

From game_player_s: "My only wish is that if you happen to get one or both of them into a playable state that you'll be considerate enough to release the playable version(s) back to the Dreamcast community for the same price you're paying (hint: free) to obtain these rare files"
