the good old question what looks better? vga related

I own multiple hdtv's however I'm not happy with how vga looks on them except 1 tv when I use pixel to pixel(toshiba) but the image is small and when not pixel to pixel it looks pretty bad on the tv. the pixel to pixel is fine for me when playing alone. but not with others.

will a converter like this: http://www.kabelstore.nl/product/217840 ... erter.html

make it look better? I have a good 42 inch hdtv downstairs of samsung but it doesn't have vga input. I own another 42inch hdtv from samsung that is a lot older and vga looks ok but not like it used to do. I'm an absolute videonut so I will see the smallest of difference and to me is important to have the best possible image. I also though about sending the toshiba to a repairman to see if something is wrong but I don't know if that would help. any advice would be welcome :)

What you're looking for is an upscale unit that scales the VGA-signal of the Dreamcast to a 720p or 1080p signal, seeing your TV doesn't do a really good job on this level.

The converter you posted literally passes trough the signal it gets, so you will get the exact same quality as when you would connect the VGA cable directly to your TV.

In short getting a XRGB or Framemeister (http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/フレー ... ped.44220/) + the Toro VGA-box (http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/dre ... tor.42388/) will get you the best image.

My old samsung did not have a proper vga connector. Iv'e been told that Samsung sometimes use cheap parts and it may not have been a full featured vga port. Vga never worked for me so I sold the telly and got a Panasonic which works great.

Except for scanlines, is there anything else the Toro is better at than other VGA boxes?...

Um yes, It can fake a 480P signals from the SCART out and 2 RCA jacks are higer quality and more reliable than a 3.5mm phono-jack.

Can recommend a Gefen VGA to DVI Scaler Plus. I have a Framemeister but I use the Gefen for my Dreamcast. Massive range of resolutions and literally no lag. Can output as VGA, DVI or HDMI. Very tweakable and you are sure to find something that works for your screen.

The reason the Toshiba is showing a small picture is it is showing a 640 x 480 picture as an exact pixel map. E.g. It is only using a fraction of the native resolution of your panel. There is no scaling etc happening. The reaon it looks so good is that you are seeing the pixels mapped 1 to 1. The reason it is a small picture is you are seeing the pixels mapped 1 to 1

By scaling you will get a better picture but you really need to scale externally by clean multiples e.g. 1280 x 960 and then display this with 1 to 1 pixel mapping. This will scale cleanly and occupy most (but not all) of the screen.

Think that makes sense.

thanks for your tip. I know about the pixel to pixel, but I wonder since when on that toshiba in larger resolution the image doesn't just look stretched it especially looks unsharp. I wonder if maybe my tv is a bit wrong
