Problems with dreampi

Alright, new semi-noob here. I've done everything said in the tutorial video (i'm using wi-fi since my modem is upstairs and there's no tv to connect my dreamcast to), i got myself a modem that has the LIV built in and my dreamcast is a jp model with jp modem. So i connect everything together, the modem's two lights are turned on, i try to connect and the connection immediately fails stating to see if there's even a modem cable connected to the dreamcast, what should i do guys?

Can you post a little more information like:
-How did you set the ISP settings on the Dreamcast
-Which Dreamcast software is failing
-What did you use for the dial number and username

Two light on the modem is a good sign. If you happen to have a phone, you could connect it to the modem and should hear a dial tone.

Failing immediately, while having two lights on with the Dreampi leans toward an issue on the Dreamcast side.

i set up the isp settings on the dreamcast the same as the tutorial said, i'm using dreamkey 3.0 and for dial number i'm using 555 since i'm from italy, never saw anything about a username though

Can you post a picture of the exact error you're seeing when you try to dial?

The username should be dreamcast, not dream, but that wouldn't cause an issue until it gets to the log in phase roughly 30 seconds after you hit connect. For better compatibility you should also make your phone number 7 digits.

If you don't have a phone to test the dreampi for dial tone, in dreamkey modem settings, under AT settings add in X1. No dial tone will give an error right away, X1 disables dial tone detection

so username and password are both dreamcast? And how should the phone number be since it requires the 555 for dreamkey?

The username and password are fine as is. DreamPi doesn't really care. You can literally put anything.

Are you 100% sure your Dreamcast modem is Japanese? Can you post a picture of the sticker on the bottom of it?
