Sega Rally 2 had online racing? And Shenmue Passport Q!

So I picked up a Japanese copy of Sega Rally 2 and there's an option for Network Game. Did anyone ever try this back in the day and is it being investigated as a potential game to resurrect?
Also, what's the chances of Shenmue Passport coming back online? I assume all the data is on the disc anyway....?

well shenme is just about to come back online as dan from dreampipe and some others have been working on it. as for sega rally what you did was you sent you times to a website and you could download someone else s time and race their ghost. sadly dan says that's not coming back anytime soon.

I commend Dan for taking on a task to bring back another piece of the online experience of the Dreamcast.

Oh man, that'd be SO amazing if they could get Shenmue Passport back online! I fondly remember using it back in the day, but as with most things online related I didn't use them enough!
