Controller Unresponsive

Hi all. First time posting. I recently purchased a Dreamcast which included one controller. I recently purchased a second controller which does not respond when plugged into the system. The issue seems to be with the controller NOT the ports. I say that because the other controller I own works perfect in the same port. Any issues with simple solutions (Ex. Clean contacts). I may simply return it to the store where I purchased it but if the fix is simple I'd rather take that approach.

Any suggestions appreciated.

My controller just wasnt working when i turned on DC, i was like..what?! than i turn off DC and turn it on again and its working...idk what happened...
