Dreamcast won't open lid

Greetings,
I was trying to restore my Dreamcast today & took it apart for the first time. I was able to put it back together but I'm having trouble getting the open button to eject the lid.
The reaction spring was broken so I put a spring from a ballpoint pen. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
