Standalone versions of DreamOn demos

Post by dr3am »

Hi everyone,

I've been wondering if extracting a demo out of a DreamOn disc to create either a standalone version of it or a custom compilation would be possible.

I am particularly interested on both Toy Commander specials (Christmas Surprise and Summer Special) located in DreamOn Volumes 11 and 16 respectively.

Extracting the content with GDRom Explorer would be a rather easy task but I'm not sure if I'm extracting all I need and I don't know if we can and how to make this bootable on its own.

Ideally, the output I'm looking for is a GDI able to be loaded into GDEMU so that I would load up one of these demos as single items with their own names (as if they were regular games). That would allow me to save space in the SD card, plus not having to go through the demo selector in the DreamOn menu.

I wasn't able to find much information around but I would like to think I'm not the first one attempting this!

hello dr3am,

I also tried to add the 3 unreleased Toy Commander on a compilation but it did not work. I only succeeded in the Christmas mission but it stays on the start screen for 30s before getting to the main menu (it worked anyway).
When I tried to add the other 2 (there is also an autumn mission it seems to me), I had the same problem for 30s then ... the Christmas mission again ???

I would have liked to offer the 3 in my No Cliché Collection that I will be offering soon but unfortunately there will only be the Christmas mission.

Thanks for sharing ShindouGo! Do you mind briefing me on the steps you took so that I can research a bit and try myself? I'm on the extraction phase for now. I know how to create the IP.BIN and have a couple of tools ready to do some testing.

There is more information here: https://www.thedreamcastjunkyard.co.uk/ ... ander.html but I don't know about any other version than Christmas and Summer however.

Yes eventually I will be able to test for once to make a compilation using Dreamon offering the 3 demos + the complete game in these different versions.
To study :)

Yes, Volume 11 contains Toy Commander Summer Special and Volume 16 contains Christmas Surprise. Where is the 3rd one you speak about located? I might have missed that one.

I couldn't find any other reference to it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toy_Commander#Legacy

Could you share how do you make these compilations or at least the way to extract one of them and make it bootable?

Many thanks.

To help you make a compilation using the Dreamon CD method, you can use the tutorial on the dreamagain.fr site here : (it's in French)
