Is there any way to return to town if you're save locked in an area? I'm stuck in an area with no way out with my current costume. It's my only save slot too. Fun.

I have the vampire costume, not enough crystals available to transform. I attached a picture and save file if anyone has ideas.

Ouch! I really hoped I'd fixed all those potential problems, but unless you have the spirit burger item, I'm afraid I don't see a way out of this one... :(

It happens to the best of us, I don’t think there’s a one game out there that doesn’t have a single problem…we’re only human after all.

A while ago I had to completely start over on an rpg, simply because I didn’t grind high enough to kill the final boss…and you couldn’t exit and grind some more

Damn. I guess that's game over for me. I'm not sure if I'll find the motivation to start over.

You could make a simple hack or code braker or gameshark code to get enought crystals to use the bat transformation.
Only enought to not break your clean game playtrought.

Maybe Roel can provide you a modified save game with that escape route ,since he knows how the game work from roots.

I have made an attempt to change the file so that it starts back in Awesometown. Not 100% sure it will work, as I currently don't have a way to load the file onto an actual Dreamcast.

FYI, I used the a development build of the game on PC to write a new save file and then inserted it into the .VMS file with a hex editor.

In any case, don't give up!
