I'm starting to notice a pattern here. They say that the game is just around the corner, but then it gets buried with more bugs to further delay the game. This is the latest update:

Code: Select all

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We were waiting to send this note because the bug list has gotten really short, but we recently had a few more things pop up, so we figured we would give you a quick update...

The problem is, the update doesn't contain too much of an update.  We have worked through a considerable amount of technical bugs and issues, and have very few known ones left.  We unfortunately cannot estimate exactly how long is left until conclusion, but I can say with certainty that all involved feel like we are very close.

As always, thank you for bearing with us during this time! We hope and expect to have great news for you very soon! If for any reason, you do not wish to wait, please contact us back and we will be happy to refund your money.

I've already emailed Dan Loosen to see if I can get a refund. If it goes through then someone else here would need to keep this place here informed because by then I will be out of the loop.

Yeah, well obviously that is quite disappointing update but

Oh, common does $20 hurt? Comparing to other DC games prices this one is very cheap. Cancelling orders doesnt speed up things for another pre orders for sure.

Watching this gameplay video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOd4kj-lKQU i have to say it looks attractive and it is worth to wait i am sure like other games we wait for but dont expect anytime soon...

Yeah I saw the update. But I will wait. It will be released eventually. Stuff takes time in dc land. The postage costs for me in Ireland were bloody high though.

It is because of a behavior like this : release dates not kept, scam, unfulfilled promises...: Slave, The Ghost Blade, Twist-It, Elysiam Shadows... that the new interesting projects (In The Line Of Fire, Xenocider ...) do not succeed.

indie teams often exist out of 1 to 5 persons, and you complain about release dates? they don't have the luxury of companies like Sony or Nintendo who can actually add 100 folks from another departement working on a game for the single purpose of releasing it in time

Each one his vision of respect. Indy or not, isn't the question.

And just for example : Orion respects all his release dates ... and he is alone.

I mean yes the looks good, and it is still worth the asking price for it, but not if it is going to suffer that many delays. It just looks like an endless run of fixing bugs, to fix bugs when more bugs comes up, and I don't see it worth my time to keep my preorder. Maybe after the game comes I'll try again, but right now I don't see Slave development deserving the money right now.

Actually a lot of the bugs seems to be on 3DGE side of the thing and not the game itself. At this rate I'd rather drop the cash on Hypertension over Slave since I know that the cash would go to improve upon the source port directly than a vaporware game.

But yeah thats my 2 cents on why I am pulling out on the preorder. It's not the fault against the development of Slave but rather on the behalf of who is assisting on supplying the necessary tools and fixes for it. I have no problem buying if after pre order, but whatever I'm saying is correct it should help speed up the development more than it would to buy Slave to just support Hypertension and/or 3DGE. Hopefully this clears up any confusion on why I'm pulling out.

Single player 2D platform / puzzle vs full blown multiplayer 3D engine with a ton of effects...am I the only one who sees that the latter will be prone to having more issues due to the technical nature of the bloody thing?

Indie games take time. These guys messed up by taking pre orders way too early. They admitted their fault which is good.

But the issue is, they keep silent for months only to release a status update saying "squashing bugs, but almost done." When you're an indie developer, it's like being an indie rock band. You need to keep your fans, especially those that supported you financially, informed of what's going on. Hell there has not even been a video of the game running on real hardware. No pictures of the manual or that coin thing.stuff like that goes a LONG way to pleasing your fans and keeping them happy.

I feel my cash was well spent and don't miss it. I know eventually a package will show up at my door with an interesting game. But these guys REALLY need to figure out how to communicate with their fan base.
