well mostly I dont like it cause of how the marketed it. It was more of a 32 bit console not a 64 bit console! It's just BARELY 64 bit technically. The games were good though (most of them) It had the best console port of DOOM and thats my favorite game on the sytem!

the console looked pretty cool also but the controller was just garbage.
Image

the top part isn't that bad and it's good/passable
but wtf is the point of the bottom half? ANOTHER phone pad thingy? like the 5200? LOLNODONOTWANT

Atari should have scraped the jaguar and released their planned "Atari Panther" which was going to be a 32 bit system and it would have been more well received If It was a 32 bit system instead!

I really just hate how they marketed it. They said its more powerful then a Saturn and slightly LESS powerful then a PlayStation. Both consoles were great and easily pwn the Jaguar. Atari also released a CD add-on which some people couldn't even work and it didn't even have many games! also...

ImageImage

notice how they look so alike?
also I'm sure the console had potential.

dude the controller was awesome, it was really handy for loads of different games and unlike the stupid 16 bit tiny controllers of the time it was actually big enough to fit my hands!

And didn't you ever get any of these?

Image

they did one for all the really top teer titles, such as AVP, Doom, Wolfenstien, couple others I can't remember, these things were totally awesome and made the controller make much more sense

Regarding its capabilities, its actually somewhere between 16 and 32bit, it certainly isn't a fully capable 32bit console and the thought of it being 64bit was just plain ridiculous. It can't handle 3d graphics properly which the Saturn (near enough) could, and it was just not powerful enough.

Regardless of that though I absolutely adore the Jag now, its retro, its got 20-30 of the best retro games ported to consoles and most of them are the best versions of those releases too, u should definitely try out Rayman, AVP, Super Burnout, Syndicate, they are some pretty awesome games on that machine

The jaguar is a good console But looking at it's game library back in the 90's and comparing it to games like streets of rage, mario, sonic, metroid, and others NO ONE was interested in the jaguar. It had good games ya but not as good as those! I think no one else likes the controller cause it had the keypad like the atari 5200 controller and that controller sucked!

It had the best console port of doom but how come it didn't have any music?

Dude did u even read my reply? The controller was really good once u got used to it, ok the library was rubbish/minimal for a consoke at the time but for a system on its own merits its a nice little console, if u forget all the crap about 64bit and just buy the 10 best games i think it can be a wonderful little machine

ya I guess if you avoid all the marketing the console itself isn't half bad :)

definitely mate, I need to pick up a cd expansion actually, I really want to play Iron Soldier 2, HoverStrike and Battle Morph, and there are some seriously awesome unreleased games that I want to check out on CD too, such as Soul Star and Skyhammer. Might crack my jag out tonight and try out some more AVP and Cybermorph.

Does anyone know where I can get (or look for) a copy of Rayman on the Jag AND a CD expansion? Without paying ridiculous amounts? I have Rayman but the cart is sketchy at best

ok so you can ignore my request for help in finding a new copy of Rayman for the Jaguar as I found one and am VERY happy with it! No more wiggling the cartridge in the slot, wipping the cartridge, wiping the slot, my new copy actually WORKS!!

So commemorate this occassion I thought i'd make a nice little video about the Jaguar, I may put up some more soon showcasing other games that I have for the console, let me know what you think!

ok so I got some more bits and bobs for my Jaguar and its actually becoming a fairly formidable little member of my collection. I picked up the CD drive as a lot of you know and I have a few games coming for it, including a bunch of promo style games etc, such as Phase Zero, which is probably the best example of graphics on the Jaguar although sadly it isn't finished. I've got Robinsons Requiem on the way and Space War 2000 on the way as well, although again that isn't finished.

Can't wait to make some videos about those when they come as they really showcase the Jaguar graphics. I also think that Battle Morph is an excellent example of the Jags power which at the time I think (if they push it) was on a par or better than the Saturns.

These are some of the latest peripherals I've picked up for my little Jaggy:

Jaguar CD Memory Track
Image

this item acts like the ram carts for the Saturn, you plug it in and it allows you to save progress etc, very cool and very handy

Jaguar PRO Controller:
Image

sporting a far more comfortable D-Pad and buttons, they are far softer now and require far less hammering to get a response! And the controller has shoulder buttons too, very handy for a lot of the games in the library.

More soon!

Anyone fancy trying the jag out yet? you can get an unboxed one on ebay with games etc for less than £50 I would think
