Hi! New!

Post by RobertWK »

Hello!

I'm a new user here and I've recently unpacked my dreamcast and games.

At some point I was trying to develop a dance Dance Revolution platform for my dreamcast and in electronics testing I accidentally fucked the controller input on it and went right out and bought another at the time when they were discounted.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might fix it?

Also, I have the lan adapter and a keyboard and was wondering if there was any unofficial software or firmware that might allow me to connect to the Internet, because frankly the version of dreamweb I have doesnt enable me to do much.

Welcome! You've hit a common problem which is a blown fuse on the controller board. I've documented how to fix it here:

http://blog.kazade.co.uk/p/dreamcast-co ... t-way.html

There are other ways to fix it (bypassing the fuse) but, they could potentially lead to other problems down the line. The polyfuse fix above means that the board is still fused (protected) but if it blows the fuse you just need to turn the Dreamcast off and on again to reset it :)

Hello and welcome RobertWK. To answer your internet question, you can use XDP as a browser. It is the current browser of choice. The question is, what is your online set-up? You would need one of the following to get online.

BREAKDOWN:
a.) A dial-up ISP. This does not allow you to connect to all of the games as far as I understand.

b.) A Raspberry Pi with DreamPi with a USB modem. Recommended as #1 way to connect and easiest.

c.) What some of us call "Netopia" set-up. This takes a bit of hardware, a bit of setting up and does not connect to all games.

d.) DC-PC server setup. This does not allow you to connect to all of the games and takes a bit of know-how including using WinXP, Ubuntu (or other Linux distribution), a modem, and virtual machine software.

Guides exist for all options but the DreamPi is the latest and by far the best method. It's really simple and there is a really good video tutorial on Dreamcast-Live. This just "works" while the other methods had limitations and take a bit of setting up on the PC end.

Welcome, Deathcyde. I typically do not welcome "death", but I'll make an exception...lol. All kidding aside, I hope you enjoy your time here at DC-Talk.

RobertWK, as a fellow DDR enthusiast, I am curious as to why you picked the Dreamcast as your console here instead of one of the other more popular platforms for DDR, such as the PS2, Wii or original Xbox?
