Elysian Shadows is an indie 2D RPG being developed for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Ouya and Sega Dreamcast. We fuse aspects of 16-bit classical RPGs such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy, with a highly stylized, modern vision by using dynamic lighting, physics, and audio engines along with swapping between 2D and 3D perspectives. Our goal is to create a "next-gen" 2D RPG in terms of gameplay, graphics, and audio while still remaining true to the games that inspired us to become developers.
STORY
of Elysian Shadows
Elysian Shadows takes place in a world caught in constant conflict between magic and technology. The gift of magic is bestowed upon loyal followers of The Creator, while the nonreligious sects of society are forced to rely upon technological advances in their daily lives. Upon uncovering a mysterious artifact deep within one of the ancient ruins scattered throughout the land, Julien and friends find themselves thrust into the middle of this mounting conflict, and they must now solve the mystery of the ancient civilizations to prevent the destruction of their own.

Re: Elysian Shadows
Haven't these guys been "working" on this project for a couple of years? I'm sure they mean well, but they don't come off as a well organized or disciplined development team and I don't really have faith that they would finish the project in the next 12-24 months. That's just me though.

If I donate money to something I want to be able to harvest the investment in the near future. I think this is true of many people. For example, Duranik never asked for money so I don't care how long it took them to create their graphically impressive game. But, when Redspot charged people for the Sturmwind pre-orders, lots of people got very upset with the delays because it interfered with their reasonably held expectations when they made the investment of their money.

Re: Elysian Shadows

Re: Elysian Shadows
I agree. I was merely using it as an example that people want what they pay for in the tangible near future.

Re: Elysian Shadows
There is lack of information about their toolkit, what are they doing - a game, an engine or all together, what license it will be released under and what will be released etc. I think we should interview them.
Anyway if it helps to make a release for Dreamcast sooner i will donate for sure.

Re: Elysian Shadows
This is precisely why a bunch of people don't take donations, actually. People have expectations when they invest money, even if its a small amount. Independent developers don't tend to like to have deadlines, and we really don't like it when people expect way too much of us.dark wrote:If I donate money to something I want to be able to harvest the investment in the near future. That's precisely why I don't take donations for Sylverant. I've had people ask me how they can donate to me many times, and I've always told them that I don't take donations. It changes the whole dynamic from something you do for fun to something you do as a job. At least in my mind.
Most people who are still doing Dreamcast-related things are doing it because they enjoy doing it. Its something that's still fun to do for them (myself included). Most of us aren't in it for profit, and most of us don't need donations to actually buy new equipment these days.

Re: Elysian Shadows
my actual point simply was this: no matter how unsignificant or in what stage of development, a new DC game should always be looked into & the makers should be motivated to finish & make it as good as possible
