[Solved] Need help getting online

Post by Slurmking »

I have walked through all of the steps, bought the USB line voltage inducer , the dell modem etc. but I am receiving some odd code at the end of the raspberry pi boot and I'm not sure what it means or it is trying to do but it will not let me dial my modem. Can anyone explain/help?

From what I can see everything looks normal on the pi. What the exact error message you are getting from the DC. Worst case scenario, you could end up having to obtain another Dreamcast Modem, some people have reported them not functioning correctly.

Do you mind sending a screen shot of your setup, and screen shot of the dc error

My setup is the USB line voltage inducer and the dell modem, the error I get is no help "Can't connect to the internet"
does the ARP commands at the bottom mean anything is failing because I don't seem them on anyone else's screenshots

arp commands are not good, try removing lvi from pi and phone line from dell modem, reboot pi and see if arp commands are still present. If they are try your most powerful usb power supply on the pi and check again.

That's a very strange local IP

ARP command is fine, he's actually completely wrong about that. It always ARPs .99 by default, and after the Dreamcast connects it dedicates .98

Usually if it won't dial it's usually because
A.) The Pi can't obtain an IP address
B.) The modem isn't compatible
C.) The voltage is bad

If you're using internet from a public place like a college or apartment complex (judging from the strange IP) then the Pi might not have permissions to reserve an IP address for the incoming Dreamcast connection

We don't really have enough info to help you, and the picture of the modem lights is blurry, can't see if both lights are on or not

Load up Planetweb, go to settings --> optional settings --> Enable Verbose Modem Messages --> test dial and post screenshots of the errors. It will say "No dial tone"/"No carrier"/etc

I think I might know what the problem is, is there any way I can change the ip address it is trying to use (172.16.0.99) to something different?

Again we need more info before we can help you

Do both modem lights come on?
Are you using internet from a public place?
What error do you get when you try to connect?
