Came out on almost anything: PSX, n64, DC, PC/MAC. Obviously the PSX/n64 versions look horrible

Once I saw the Acclaim logo, I was like "NOPE!" But then I remembered that Acclaim published some decent games on the DC. Remember TrickStyle? That was pretty good.

This title seems interesting too, based on your review. Might check it out sometime. ;)

Hey mazonemayu, could you link me to some sort of a walkthrough or a map of deadside... i found my old save and i'm running in circles in deadside, most of the portals I've already opened, but there are some that i don't have enough power for. I can go to the very entrance where the Snake is, but man... is there a way for me to find out whats the next thing i should do? Also when i equip the gun and Asson, each time i go to another area (through a loading screen) Asson is unequipped, is that normal?

What i actually need is some words of wisdom or a basic primer on how to do things in Shadowman.

Thanks in advance man!

The numbers on the gates are the level of shadow power you need to open em. As always walkthroughs are on gamefaqs. I really can't guide you through this way, the game is just too big. If you can't continue further into the game it means that you haven't found all the dark souls in the unlocked part yet of the game. Also if you only have the asson, you're still very early in the game. Also don't forget you can shoot certain doors in liveside to open them, and look for snamm ledges, you often need to scale a wall to get to another part of the game.
You basically need to get to the Asylum from the Marrow Gates (snake), from there the game wil sorta open up by giving you multiple paths to follow. The 3 temples at the bottom of the map will give you key powers without which you cannot finish the game (climb bloodfalls, walk on fire/lava and swim in boiling water/lava).

The game will seem a bit confusing at first, but that's only because of its sheer size, but it is build very logically: a certain ammount of dark souls will let you open the next gate where you will find a few items to open other parts of the game, allowing you to collect more dark souls, to open more gates, and so on...

Also not a single "level" can be completed right from the start, there's a lot of backtracking involved in this game.

The question about the asson: you prolly saved while holding it, just go to the items menu and unequip it.
About the old save: better to start over if it has been too long, if you pick up the game after a few months and it is half unlocked,,you could spend ages looking for what to do next. Starting anew might be easier imo

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation!
I printed the map and will try to retrace my steps through all the open areas (i have shadow power 3) i have more items than the Asson, but have to check tonight... and my old save is more than 5 years old, not months :P so i might just start from the beginning and enjoy it fully.

Thanks again man!

OK, i finally found something i haven't done before... i found a portal in the cathedral and arrived at a boss in liveside. A disco guy in a prison, i found an UZI, but wasted it very quickly (40 bullets)... this guy murdered me like 10 times... and i only have the gun to fight him. I have 5 pieces of health and a gun, is he beatable with that?

edit: some times he falls to the ground, but nothing happens, i say something about needing my shadow powers...

from gamefaqs
Q: How do I destroy the Serial Killers?

A: You have to find an item that allows you to become Shadowman in
Liveside...
whats that? can i go back to deadside while the boss is alive?

edit: i'm getting it (i think), better go back using the teddy bear and search for the needed items... man this is confusing, but awesome!!!

That's just how the game works, if you get to a point where you can't move on (or in this case kill a boss), it means that it isn't time yet (in other words you are missing either an item or a/the power to continue)
The first 20 hours or so you spend on building your character, powering up and finding stuff. Then the rest follows automatically. Also Nettie will provide you with a hint every now and then

To give you an idea of how big the game is and how much exploring there is to do: there is a +70 episode walkthrough on youtube, every episode is about 10 minutes. This is AT LEAST how much time you will spend completing this, if you know where to find everything from the first time that is .

It sorta goes like this: if you have a shadow power of 3 you can enter the first temple where you gain the ability to climb bloodfalls, once you have this ability you'll find new ways to explore the part of the game you already unlocked. Whilst exploring you will get more dark souls and you will (eventually) gain access to a bigger part of the game and the second temple where (again) you gain an ability and you will (again) be able to follow new paths in the already unlocked part of the game, and so on...halfway through the story will start coming together and you'll know where to go and what to do in which order (sorta) .it really works in the same way as soul reaver, only it is way bigger.

Use the map, it is very important

The prison in liveside works pretty much the same way, it is devided in 4 parts (of which 2 are instantly accessible if I'm not mistaken). You need to find stuff there to use in deadside to make sure that you can make it night in liveside to finish the prison...

I admit it is not easy without a walkthrough the first time, Even I had to look up 2 or 3 things myself when I played it last month, and I have finished it before, it's just so fucking big...
