Some pretty awesome news for the community! The source code for Red Dog: Superior Firepower has been released to the public! Unlike a lot of source code "releases", this is not a leak but an official release by the rights owner. Big thanks to Matt Goldbert (the engine programmer) and Argonaut founder Jez San for making this happen! Let's see what the community can do with it!
Finally received my copy of the Astro Port collection.
Had a quick go on the four games included:
First thoughts - Gigantic Army looks fun but might become a bit repetitive Zangeri Warp - enjoyed this more than I was expecting - good fun warping Satazius Next - graphics don't look that good via VGA - seems quite difficult but will give it a go Wolflame - much harder than I was expecting.
Price does seem expensive but know sales are much smaller on dreamcast - packaging is nice as per usual.
I don't know how many folks are familiar with the Blueretro controller box adapter that allows modern controllers to work on retro systems, but they made something more impressive that was an internal controller port board replacement for the GameCube that has built-in Bluetooth, power cycle, and sleep modes, as well as other cool features.
Well, they basically announced that they will be making one for the Dreamcast, but it is still in the research and planning stages. Imagine built-in memory card support and CMOS coin cell battery or built-in small LIPO that would always recharge itself.
You can check out the tweet below, but here is the post.
No guarantees on this but I'm currently petitioning Hi-Rez Studios to release the source code for the original Tribes game. They released the game as freeware back in 2015 so it's not a huge stretch. I even have the game's lead designer, Scott Youngblood, on board. He actually has the source code but would need permission from the IP holder (Hi-Rez), to release it.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, it's an online multiplayer first-person shooter that was released for PC back in 1998. You can see some gameplay in the video below. I'm sure it would be a perfect candidate for a Dreamcast port. Scott is a fan of the Dreamcast as well and agreed it would have been a great platform [...]
Update: The download is a 512MB ZIP file. It ran fine on Android reicast. Has special support for the Twin Stick and WingmanSD. Nice touch! Looks to be a professional quality release. Manual is nicely done. There is a violence warning.
