I've been getting into this genre of music recently. These are my two favorite songs at the moment. Does anyone familiar with this type of music have any recommendations for me?

Old School - DV8

Stomping Grounds - K.C.Y.C.

I'm thinking about putting a mix together but its difficult for me to recognize the different parts of the song. Its really different from hip hop where it follows a simple 8-16-8-16 bar structure.

I was 16 when i left school in '89. This was my era. I made an 'old school HOUSE mix tape' just a couple of days ago, turning my vinyl 12"s into MP3s, and tracking down the songs I didn't own or have sold since.

These are cool - You tube is a great place to look, or just Google. Youtube offers 'like' posts in the bar on the right, and I often discover new tracks by following other links, or finding a good 'poster' with a good vinyl collection.

How old are you? where you there 'back-in-the-day'?

Try 'LNR - Work it to the bone'
'lil' louis - French Kiss'
'Jungle Brothers - i'll House you'.

Good luck! :D

Thanks for the suggestions and tips , I'm turning 21 in march. I remember hearing this distinct sound when I was younger. I'm still in the process of getting to know this genre.
