Daytona Championship USA now playable on PC!

This week Sega Amusements (not Sega Japan) announced a new Daytona coin-op:

Interesting to see how it plays compared to the original and Daytona USA 2001.

Oh dear, Sega Amusements seemed to have dropped an absolute clanger! They released a download for arcade operators to get the latest edition of Daytona Championship USA....and it actually contained the full game!! Now savvy users can get the games running on their home PC's!

I'm revisiting this old thread to say that I found a 4 player version of this at an arcade and gave it a few plays.

It sucked!

I've played many hours of the arcade, Saturn/PC, and Dreamcast versions of this game, and can easily finish 1st in all courses in those versions, so I'm fairly experienced with Daytona. My list of grievances:

-The steering wheel had a massive deadzone for all players. You had to move it about 20 degrees in either direction for the car to start turning.
-The 4 way gearbox was replaced by a 2 way up/down shifter. How on Earth do you play Daytona when you can't instantly shift to any given gear for drifting?
-The shifter was unresponsive, it sometimes didn't actually shift when I pushed it. My friend on the seat next to me complained about the same thing so I don't think it's an issue with wear, especially with how new this game is.
-The speedometer was way off in the bottom corner of the screen, rather than at the top of the screen where you can easily keep an eye on it. This made it hard to tell when to shift gears, especially when the shifter sometimes doesn't actually work.
-The physics are very off. Sometimes just glancing a wall was enough to bring me to almost a dead stop.
-There are 3 "new" tracks, but they're actually just reskinned original tracks.
-The tracks have less laps than before. Dinosaur canyon (the advanced track) only had 3 instead of 4.

I've never been so disappointed by an arcade game. I've heard there's a newer version that has a proper 4 way shifter but the odds of me ever finding a machine for that one is very slim. I know that there have been many versions of Daytona and they all have their quirks, but I've played many of them and could adapt pretty quickly. This one was just terrible.
