A magazine's fake image of Sega Black Belt

Black Belt was the code name for the dreamcast while under development. Many magazines of the day speculated about it. I recently saw that a magazine had gone so far as to make a fake mock-up image of the black belt. I hadn't seen this before, so thought I'd share and let you guys get a kick out of it. Would you still like the dreamcast if it looked like this? Kinda reminds me of a cross between the Saturn and the Gamecube with how boxy it is.

Hindsight is everything. Looking at this literally makes me cringe and glad we got the design we did.

That design always reminded me of something aquatic, like a squid. It's wedge design really would have made it an ideal doorstop though, I can see the memes now.

Not bad looking for a prototype.

I have to wonder what kind of ideas they had for those controller ports, look more like intake valves for a water pump system.
The biggest mystery to me is why they settled on the controller having less face buttons than the Saturn, given that they built it upon the Saturn 3D control pad. Software is able to see Z and C buttons that act independent of the L and R triggers, maybe it was a last minute change.

No idea why this popped into my head, don't even know if it makes sense to anybody else, but...

I wonder if the designers of that prototype case really thought it would be a significant contender for the real console shell...
