Sega Powered Kickstarter

I've backed it. I hope it's a success but I did send a little rant on KS to the people behind it. Not saying anybody should or shouldn't back it but I hope they take my rant below onboard - I think it's pretty fair.

"I'll be honest I'm sceptical. I know your track record and bona fides and have already backed the project so let's get that out of the way.

However, there is an incredible story to tell here and I'm not sure if a few cosy buddies rinsing the fans is what the remnants of the Sega scene deserve.

Imho the first publication should focus on the people who have kept the Sega community alive. That's the likes of XL2 with Hellgate on the Saturn, Ian Micheal the absolute GOAT of DC ports, Kazade who has developed a completely new DC/Android/PSP game engine called Simulant as well as being the person responsible for getting DC games back online with DreamPI, Megavolt85 and MrNeo - if your not featuring these guys then you should. You should be showcasing their achievements, their stories and insights. It'll make for more engaging and contemporary copy, these are real stories that you can bring to a wider audience - you've got the opportunity to do that. I hope you take it and build something sustainable and special and not just based on nostalgia. Over to you."

I don’t see it anywhere, maybe they deleted it? Still a great comment, and one worthy of digging into from a reporter’s perspective

I didn't put it in the FAQ on the project. I put it as a message to Dean.

Also been many scene homebrew coders like ROEL as well and others TapmN that kept the dreamcast alive.. If they just make nostalgia i think i will pass on it..

So many storys to tell the Dreamcast scene is alive lasted longer then the console as retail machine..

It be great as we could do ports or games for the mag and have game jams for it.. Zzap c64 is doing that now and doing great..They cover some old games but lot of new and storys of homebrew dev's and get interviews with the dev's from the day makes it better then it ever was..

maybe there gearing up for the Dreamcast mini i dont know lol

I looked at the promo video for this kickstarter and basically nothing that was shown indicated it would be about new developments, instead it looks like a 100% nostalgia thing rehashing how great the retail games were on sega systems.

Dean was kind enough to get back to me and has said they will indeed be featuring the community and indie developers.

This looks really cool! I was just in a newsagent seeing what's on offer the other day. So far there's Retro Gamer and not much else. This could fill a niche.
