just posted a test video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj6F5tU8h_Q and while most of it is in composite the parts with s video have issues. so as we can see the s video looks sharper and cleaner but has a ugly white bar. im just curious on how to fix it. using pinnacle instant dvd recorder.

A lot of capturing devices has issues capturing s-video as most capture card programs treats it as composite. It could be many other things that would cause that like quality of cables, poor official support, faulty VGA Box (that's my case), aging hardware and/or components, or even the fact that the Dreamcast doesn't handle s-video very well. I have that issue with my 36" Sony Wega Trinitron TV display doing that for all video signals from all formats and all the ports. You mileage can vary, but what I recommend is to retire that capture card as Pinnacle isn't the best way to go anymore for compatibility reasons.

I don't know how much ussfull it is to ask me since I don't have a way to backup my reason because I don't have a capture card myself (yet) but one good recommendation would be Virtualdub.

I've been using a Dazzle and haven't had any problems really. I only use composite because my VCR won't take S-Video, but other than trying to convert VGA to Component, it's really all I got.
