Dream pi problems (sort of)

Hey guys,

I got everything set up with pcwizard's tutorial and it is running, but it only works up to a point: I can surf the web, connect to 4x4 evo and chuchu rocket, toy racer does not seem to work, and I can't seem te get past the lobby loading screen in psov2 (the music starts playing though...). I'm in PAL world ;) and use the official PAL psov2 game which I have always used the play online here with my bba...

...any ideas??

well most importantly are you DMZ'ing your Dreamcast IP. That always ends up being the #1 problem lol. :)

if your dreampi is connected to the internet through your router, you'll need to access your router's settings :) inside your routers settings usually under a WAN tab you should see some sort of enabling DMZ setting.

Alternatively you could just bypass the router and just plug the pi into your cable/dsl modem :)

DMZ/port forwarding instructions can be found here. That's not the issue here though as you can still connect to games without it (playing an actual game is where you might experience issues without port forwarding). Plus PSO doesn't require port forwarding.

ok, I did some reading up on the subject and tried to the stuff you posted here viewtopic.php?t=9627

so I put in Quake 3, saw what ip my dc is using & changed the DMZ of my router/cable modem (I only have the modem on the wall, there's nothing else between it, no router, no firewall, nothing...Quake 3 also works online btw, but still no PSO...it keeps saying to check if my provider settings are correct and it disconnects...

seems I'm in the same boat as the guy in that topic, the ip is 192.168.X.XXX and I can only change the last 3 digits

so I changed that to the ip quake gave me, opened a port in my router, but pso still says fuck you...which I find odd in itsself, coz I've always been able to play pso by simply plugging my bba directly into my modem...

I discovered something strange, when I plug in my pi and check my modem settings, it sometimes shows an ip ending with 163, if I put in Q3 to check it, it says the ip end with 98...so then I tried changing the dmz from ...163 to...98 and suddenly the pi is shown as...98 on my modem settings and its name has changed from "dreampi" to "ethernet cable"...

Wth does this all mean?

Ok, I think know what the issue is with PSO. BlueCrab recently moved the Sylverant server to a new location and the IP changed. I don't think Kazade has updated the DreamPi DNS server to reflect this change. I've notified him so he should have this fixed soon.

Edit: Should be fixed now. Give it a try when you get a chance.

Awesome! The Toy Racer issue appears to be on my end. The server is offline and I'm not at home to fix it. I won't be back until next week so it'll be offline until then.
