I remember the Official mag (I presume you're referring to the UK version) and have (mostly) fond memories of it. The reviews weren't the typical shit you find in most official mags, and were usually balanced and fair. Only the very best games scored seven or more out of ten. I didn't always agree with them though !

As for three out of ten.........maybe the reviewer got out the wrong side of bed that day. I seem to remember that Fighting Force 2 got about the same score ? It just doesn't sound right, no matter how much they try and justify it. But hey, my boss at work told me I was an ugly fucker this morning and yet my girlfriend told me this evening that she thought I was a hunk There really is no accounting for taste sometimes

I think that Speed Devils review stemmed from the US edition. Perhaps Ubisoft didn't send any 'freebies' to the mag for a decent review?

Finally, someone feels the exact same pain I had playing Spirit of Speed!

I've found a screenshot of one of the rankings from Speed Devils Online. Taken from DC-UK Magazine #20. Screenshot was originally very small and this is blown up considerably. Doesn't help that I have a basic scanner either!



Not sure how legit the results are though.

It was somewhat average but not half bad. I played it a lot as I liked playing on my dc over the ps2.

For a long time, I was always curious to check out this game, when I first saw it in a Gamepro magazine.

I just read the review. And I found it really interesting.
Interesting to a point, that now I'm super curious, to play this game for myself.

I have heard gamers say, that Speed Devils 1 is alot better than Speed devils 2, and that the controls in part 2, are delayed and clunky as the controls in tekken.
I've been planning on playing it, moreso the first game, to see for myself, if this game/both games, is as bad as many reviewers say it is. Or if it is as good, as fans of the game, say it is. Personally, I find that the game looks alright though.

[ GameLoft] seemed to have turned into a mobile gaming company in the [early 2000's], and have released this rather odd Speed Devils game which resembles an Outrun clone:

I wasn't too sure where to post this but as I mentioned this version in my replies, this seems the best place. It's the 'mobile/Java' version of Speed Devils that Gameloft released in 2002 (about 1/2 years after Speed Devils Online). It bears no resemblance to the original titles and looks more like an Outrun/Chase HQ clone.


Any chance of converting this to Dreamcast?

With regard to my review of Speed Devils Online (SDO) , my low score (2/10) still stands if you are not planning to play that title online. 'Offline' gamers should stick with the original Speed Devils (SD) release. I may re-review SDO if I ever get the DC back online (not in the foreseeable though).
