PSO Help w/serial number

Hi all,

New to the forum! In love with the DC PSO... I've been playing Ver. 1 and recently got my DC online with Rasberry Pi. When I attempt to get PSO online, it asks for the serial number. Unfortunately, I do not have the original packaging.
I have a level 64 character and wish to use her online...

What is the best way to proceed? I'm upgrading to version 2 very soon. Should I wait until I do so and then use the serial number and access key from that package? Or use one of the universal ones found online before I do the upgrade to ver 2? Is there one you guys can recommend?

I basically do not want to lose my character.
I'd really appreciate some guidance here, at least to be pointed in the right direction! I know this has been asked before (or at least variations of this question have) but I can't find an exact answer out there.

Really appreciate the help!!

SLS

You really should register. I made that mistake with my PALv2 GD-ROM version by using a generic one.

Where are you based? If you are getting V2 then I would say hold off for that but make sure all the info you need is included. For PAL, we had an insert with the serial/access key but I think it was a stucker in other regions.

You could use a generic code you find online but you will be missing out on so many good features, including a cloud save for your character if the worst should ever happen.

Thank you for the replies, guys!

I'm based in Canada.
And yes, a cloud save feature sounds so good to me... I had played an Android on GC for YEARS and was at level 126 and had another character at level 96 (and had rare items one only dreams about) and ended up with a corrupt save file last summer. That was horrible. All down the drain - it felt like a part of me died.

Needless to say, instead of moping, I jumped right into my Dreamcast version for the first time and do not wish to lose another character.

That being said, when I make the cross over to version 2, will I need the original serial number from version 1, in order to do the version upgrade (which I do not have, as the game was bought used)?

Getting past that, is it actually possible to register online using the codes from the version 2 jewel case? Please tell me if this is so and if not, is there away around that to access the original code in the flash memory, or a way to wipe that clean without damaging the character data?

I really appreciate the help you guys and looking forward to your response. Dreamcast is new to me but I can truly see why it's so well loved.

Yes, I would PM Aleron Ives for details. He is the best resource for PSO. Also, go to the PSO Palace. There is a wealth of better info than I can give you.

It's impossible to play PSO without a serial. If you don't have one, that means whoever owned that DC before you played PSO and saved his serial to the flash. When you try to go online, it's going to reject whatever serial you use, because it doesn't match the one saved in the flash. In order to convert a V1 character to V2, you need serials for both.

Basically, if you want to play online, you will need to erase your flash memory, delete your character, use the serial that comes with your V2 disc, and make a new character. You won't be able to play V1 unless you also get a V1 disc with a V1 serial. Once you have V2, there's no reason to mess with V1 anymore, though, so you can just sell your V1 disc.

"if you want to play online, you will need to erase your flash memory"

My problem: When I want to go online with PSO Ver2 I am asked for a PSO key (mentioning not the VER2 Key). I habe a PSO key but it didnt work.

Whats the flash memory, is within the Dreamcast and how to delete it?

thanks
