SPECIAL REPORT : The Real Reason JAMMA 2011 Was Delayed
September 11, 2011 staffsegaleaks Leave a comment

The annual JAMMA exhibition always takes place approximately a week prior to the Tokyo Game Show. This year was no different, the 2011 edition of JAMMA was to take place between the 8th and 10th of September, one week before TGS.

However, as time neared, Sega decided to use the annual show as the official debut for it’s next generation arcade platform. Using it’s overwhelming power in the amusement business, the company convinced the Japan Amusement Machinery Manufacturers Association to delay the show by one week, to the 15 – 17th of September.

The reason for this is because the 2011 Tokyo Game Show is also to place on the exact same date, the 15 – 18th of September, in the exact same convention center, the Makuhari Messe in Chiba city. Source - http://www.m-messe.co.jp/en/index.html

As both shows take place at the same time within the same facility, when Sega officially reveals it’s revolutionary real time ray tracing hardware, the company can be assured of maximal worldwide press coverage and maximal mainstream exposure, as the entire world’s press shall have descended to the Makuhari Messe on the 15th for TGS coverage anyway. Something that wouldn’t have happened for an amusement arcade only exhibition. Members of the press and indeed the general visiting public shall only be required to commute from Halls 1 – 8 (TGS) to halls 9 – 10 (JAMMA) of the Makuhari Messe.

A meticulously planned strategy by Sega and Sammy.

Sega must have something bigger in plan than just an arcade system!

I agree! I'm keeping my fingers crossed the board's CPU isn't Intel.

If all indicators are correct including SegaNews' sources from the other day, then the board could be powered by Nvidia's new mircoprocessor "Denver" which would mean both SEGA and Apple have first dibs on the new ARM 64-bit ISA CPU!

Think about it. Mircosoft has chosen AMD Bulldozer. Nintendo pull out the old 2006 IBM PowerPC, if RINGWAVE runs Nvidia Denver (Hitachi ARM) then they'll have a heads up on the PC market and Apple's new MAC BOOKs will be running on ARM instead of x86.

Notice that Apple's 2009/2010 MACBOOKS and RINGEDGE both used Pentium Allendale.

Conincidence?

I hope so too. SEGA's post Tsunami trademarking department remains unchanged and hasn't been updated yet.

So wait, what evidence is there that SEGA is the one behind the rescheduling of JAMMA?

Kabshiki Kaisha SEGA has always been the main sponsor and funder for JAMMA going back to 1988.

The change in venue is obviously for two reasons: 1. JAMMA crowds are normally smaller, displaying a new arcade board the same week as TGS is probably not a good idea and the executives understand that. Why do it at JAMMA when you can drew lots of attention and free gaming press at the LARGER crowds of Toyko Game Show?!

2. Because SEGA is displaying a bit of stuffy attitude towars RINGWAVE, which is very very telling. JAMMA has always been held 3-6 weeks before TGS each year, the fact that was scheduled the same week as TGS was a flawed marketing move and poor venue on SEGA and the Tokyo Government's part. What's interesting is that SEGA has never annouced a new arcade system at the same time as TGS or at TGS! So if the RINGWAVE is annouced at TGS, it would a FIRST in Japanese history.

The fact that the board could very definetly be annouced at TGS could mean SEGA is making some sort of BOLD statement and means that they've loads of neat surprises at TGS this year.
