MrSega wrote:@Logic. Not nessassarily true. In the first half of 1998, when SEGA chose the Katana chipset for its NAOMI arcade board & newly christened Dreamcast console, Power VR 2 was ALREADY ready for OEM rollout, even in July 1997, SEGA's "Black Belt" design had a low cost 3Dfx GPU. What you stated is not always the case.

True, this point cannot be disputed. Did you however read the preceding articles?

"The company is preparing its return to the world of discrete GPU cards in quite the opposite way from what you might guesstimate. As you can see on the picture below, the last time we saw PowerVR inside of a PC, the card was being bundled with Myst III: Exile, and its competitors were Radeon 8500 and GeForce 3."

"Imagination Technologies tried to popularize its tile architecture for graphics processing units (GPUs) in the late nineties and the early thousands. While some products, e.g. Power VR Kyro, managed to boast respectable levels of performance, ImgTec could not capture significant share of the market due to very fast progress demonstrated by ATI Technologies and Nvidia Corp. and the lack of ties with PC OEMs. But the company may get back to discrete accelerator cards for personal computers already this year when it launches real-time ray-tracing accelerators."

These articles actually shoot your case right in the foot, depending on how you interpret new Sega Hardware. If by console, you mean consoles as we know them the you would still have the benefit of the doubt.

However, your mobile/tablet theory is almost completely blow out of the water seeings as this tech is aimed at Desktop PC's only, to challenge Nvidia's Geforce and AMD's Radeon lineup.

So either Sega is making console hardware as tradition dicatates, or is not using this tech at all and going mobile, making these articles Irrelevant anyway.

However saying that this show product will power a new Sega tablet is far beyond the line of rationality. You can't have both, you'll have to pick and choose because evidence, and direct statements connected to both these articles which you have claimed as factual(they are btw I believe you on that) do not support both theories. Sega is either making another box, or forsaking this shown technology to compete in the mobile space. Can't have em both.

@Logic. Fair enough. But since CES, I've steered any sort of speculation on the KP/dc Pad away from Imagination Tech & more towards Nvidia.

Based on the fact that the "Kids Pad" trademark is on suspension would not only suggest that the device will have a different name but that the concept is still on the table.

Also considering the fact that Nvidia proudly displayed "Hedgehog Engine" on their site about Tegra 3 not only shows that Episode 2 will run on Tegra 3 but that the mobile proccessor could power the tablet.

Power VR 5GX is mostly an NEC matter not ImageTech matter. Its more of a Japanese OEM partner type of matter

Until SEGA TOYS files another trademark application, focus on the tablet is and has to be shifted to this BIG "Orbi" mark.

The point of that wall of text o' mine was simply that at this point, you cannot take a technology designed for desktops and put on tablets and expect everything to be Amazing all of a sudden is all.

As for SEGA an Nvidia, They both jointly announced that they were optimizing S4EP2 On the android platform for The Tegra 3. So that is little more than common knowledge.

The mark has several logos including 3 that's never been seen before.
