Guys, with open bor you can create shmup, its a great engine and has a lot of possibilities, there is a demo for dreamcast using the engine to make a horizontal shump called Hyper Duel, with this base you can create your won game with no problem and port it to dreamcast and others devices.

ooooo, thanks a ton bud. I got little tiny experience failing to convert OpenBOR games. Seems like that engine just keeps coming back to me. Probably time to just, you know, learn it.

I've never seen it done, but, seems like OpenSonic / Serge or whatever it's called now could do a mean shump too.

DL link appears to not work for me but the video looks promising. Is there a great deal to do on the programming side? Would one day like to see a full conversion of R-Type Leo running on DC even if it means having to rip all the graphics and sounds by hand.

No it's one of the easier DC friendly things you could pick up. IMO.

I started so green these guys Ian and Dark taught me how to use photo editor programs let alone BOR. I'm not yet competent enough to make my own games or even get done the convert I wanted to, but that's not because it's super hard or because there was a lack of support. I simply ran out of free time.

If you know NOTHING but have the time, passion, and dedication to keep going the guys here will help you as best they can and BOR is easy enough for someone who doesn't even know basic photo editor tasks or lingo to pick up inside a couple weeks.

You might be interested in my Thundercats thread. I came in so basic and unprepared it's probably got more handholding than you need.

I have some advice:

Windows/Official OpenBOR is made by fellas at Chrono Crash and while I respect them, I think they're jerks. They have no appreciate for Dreamcast and do not like helping anyone with a DC issue.

On top of that the differences in a current OBOR and DreamBOR 7 are so massive it's just confusing to learn a process in openbor from their tuts and then see it fail totally in DreamBOR.

I think I would have an easier time picking up what Ian was saying if I started by just earnestly trying to learn the engine instead of making a convert. Using already done BORs as a template or reference is a great idea. I used Dubcity and Ian as points of reference loads and it helped loads, but don't start with a convert. Start with something already running on DreamBOR and mess with it a bunch or just start a project from nothing and make some very basic proof of concept type builds.

If anyone here says anything contradictory to me go with their advice. I am the lowest man on the totem.

I think we should create a DREAMBOR GAME DEV thread to help people with openbor basic and advanced knowledge. I have learn a lot of openbor creating some tiny games a couple years, and i have a great suport of some members of chronocrash. Would be great if we could focus here in Dreambor/openbor for Dreamcast developers. I can help with what i know about openbor game dev so far.
