ye chocolate duke ported the ASM portions of the code to C so one doesn't have to port it to SHASM, though it would probably be A LOT faster if the ASM was ported to SHASM

instead of posting this over at dcemulation where devs can see it i'm posting here to see what everyone thinks of the idea, and if it generates some kind of ongoing conversation maybe it will motivate some devs around here to give it a try

its not much more complex than doom in terms of 3d levels with 2d sprites. it'd be very possible to get great performance at 320x240 (typical native resolution for doom era fps). couple that with 56k coop support and the dc gets a few more percentage points more cool lol

hell, duke 3d was even ported to the genesis, got a great saturn port with netplay, so a pretty amazing port can probably be put together for dreamcast. perhaps windows ce can be of use for speed of porting and game performance using direct3d

edit: this article essentially details the entire source code and the process of building it, probably can be followed for WCE http://fabiensanglard.net/duke3d/

Actually nothing but the unreleased Playstation version of Duke Nukem 3D was a port. The platforms the game ran on was rewritten from scratch for each platform. At that time, they ran on different engines as well. However I see no restrictions in making a port of DukeNukem if it does not exist as a homebrew release already, for the Dreamcast.

There was a port a long time ago: http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/dre ... out-on-dc/

But it didn't feature controller support, nor did the full version work.
