Duke Nukem 3D source port?

seeing how surprisingly positive the reaction to 56k DCdoom was, i'm wondering what everyone thinks of a duke nukem 3d port? i wasn't aware until 10 minutes ago the engine was actually open sourced
http://dukenukem.wikia.com/wiki/Source_port

instead of posting this over at dcemulation where devs can see it i'm posting here to see what everyone thinks of the idea, and if it generates some kind of ongoing conversation maybe it will motivate some devs around here to give it a try

its not much more complex than doom in terms of 3d levels with 2d sprites. it'd be very possible to get great performance at 320x240 (typical native resolution for doom era fps). couple that with 56k coop support and the dc gets a few more percentage points more cool lol

hell, duke 3d was even ported to the genesis, got a great saturn port with netplay, so a pretty amazing port can probably be put together for dreamcast. perhaps windows ce can be of use for speed of porting and game performance using direct3d

edit: this article essentially details the entire source code and the process of building it, probably can be followed for WCE http://fabiensanglard.net/duke3d/

It was ported but it's a very early build which was discontinued. I'd LOVE a fully fledged Duke port!!

I would LOVE a Duke Nukem 3D port that has online multiplayer for DC.

I never played Duke Nukem 3D myself. I'd be all for an awesome Dreamcast port with 56k modem support!!

Yeah the port was unplayable and buggy as fuck just like the port of Hexen 2. I couldn't ever get that game working sadly. He unfortunately exited the community before finishing them or really putting in enough effort to get them up and running.

Aleph One(Marathon Trilogy) was also ported over by him, and it was actually complete sans saves working, controller and mouse support basically. You can also ONLY play it with a keyboard. How lame is that lmfao? I do love the games though and enjoyed the fact it was on Dreamcast at all. I think it would really be worth hit to see all new source ports of those projects again.

There's a port of Duke Nukem 3D called ChoclateDuke.
It's basically all the original sources cleaned and rewritten and tons of documentation added to make porting to other systems easy.
https://github.com/fabiensanglard/chocolate_duke3D

The dude also did a code review of the original duke3d sources: http://fabiensanglard.net/duke3d/

I think this is the easiest route to get Duke Nukem 3D running on the Dreamcast.
Now if I only had the time..
