I've seen a few things about this. How exactly is this going to boot up on the Saturn without any special hardware modifications? I remember reading a few years ago about the Saturn getting cracked finally. So will this game be able to run on a normal unmodified saturn / without an action replay?

Nico: we asked him about it on one of the Sega groups over at Facebook, a while ago, and he said it was going to a released on cartridge & played through the expansion port...I know a lot can be done with that port, but running a full blown game??? I'll have to see it, to believe it...

I think I heard of a Japanese fighting game for Saturn being released in cart form. I cant remember the damn name though, but it was released in the 90's. I am not talking about games requiring expansion carts, I believe the full game was on the cart itself.

Actually I've seen that before. This video shows the Sega Saturn running a Master System emulator using the cartridge port!

Hi Anthony,
You are probably thinking of 'The King of Fighters 95'. That required a special ROM cart in order to boot although it didn't contain the whole game (you needed the disc as well). It was presumably used to reduce loading times as well as to reduce how often the disc is read (in order to preserve the laser). There is some more info about the 'Twin Advanced ROM System' on segaretro.org:

Ah maybe that was it! Thanks for the clarification! I knew I heard something similar to it, but I guess it was only partially on the expansion cart.
