king of dirt releases his neogeocd neo4all library to archive.org

https://archive.org/details/neo-geo-cd- ... collection

Code: Select all

This contains all of the SNK Neo Geo CD releases (and some AES/MVS titles) converted to run as stand-alone, bootable discs on the Sega Dreamcast console. This is achieved by using the RC-4 release of Chui's NEO4ALL NGCD emulator for the DC; each disc is rebuilt with its CDDA audio files and game files and ready to be either burned to a CD-R or transferred to a(n) (micro) SD card for use in a GDEMU.

If there is no language setting present in a game, I defaulted the NGCD region to Europe (occasionally I forgot and it's still the USA setting, sorry!); this provides English menus and dialogue and (sometimes) less censorship than the USA region. However, if a game boots into the Japanese version, please check the in-game options: there will be a setting to toggle the game into English (or whatever language of your choice), thus providing an uncensored English language presentation.

Also, while there are very good ports of The King of Fighters '98, '99, The Last Blade 2, and Twinkle Star Sprites for the DC, note that they do not support VGA output; they do support 240p output, but they will not boot into 480p with the VGA box for anything. So this is the only way to play those SNK games in VGA on your Dreamcast console.

Here is a list of known glitches, bugs, non-working images and other notes:

Art of Fighting - Boots and runs, but graphics are glitched. Unplayable.

Magical Drop 2 - Dialogue/information text doesn't display properly, but the actual game is playable.

Over Top - Once you load into a race the game sits there and the race doesn't start. Unplayable.

Pulstar - RC-4 had issues with sound effects not being audible during gameplay, as well as some CDDA issues; RC-3 has some issues with CDDA not playing properly during attract screens and cutscenes, but otherwise all audio works fine during actual game. Playable.

Samurai Shodown III - Boots and runs fine until a match, then resets back to title. Unplayable. I tried older versions of NEO4ALL that don't have a standalone build, and the most recent update that runs SSIII is BETA-4, so I used that to build the disc; unfortunately, it pops up the emulator menu upon boot, so some user input is required to get up and running. Not perfect but completely playable.

Samurai Shodown RPG - Makes it to the splash screen but won't load beyond that. Unplayable.

Street Slam (aka Street Hoop aka Dunk Dream) - This game has differences in each regional setting, so I set it up to boot the RC-3 menu screen when you start; this way you can see all the differences between the regions.

Top Hunter - Roddy & Cathy - The Japanese version has a special ending that was cut from the western release, so this image has the emulator menu so you can choose to experience this special ending if you wish.

Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer - Won't boot with NEO4ALL. Unplayable.

Windjammers - The main menu text is hidden, but if you keep hitting the confirm button you'll get into a game. From there on it's fine. Playable.

This is a list of the (very few) Japanese language-only NGCD games:

Final Romance 2 Idol Mahjong

Janshin Densetsu - Quest of Jongmaster

The King of Fighters '96 Neo Geo Collection (while it's all in Japanese, dig around and there's a ton of great stuff on this disc)

Mahjong Kyouretsuden - Nishi Nihon Hen (get ready to play some REAL MAHJONG)

Quiz King of Fighters

Samurai Shodown RPG (if it was playable, of course)

Shougi no Tatsujin - Master of Syougi

Stakes Winner - GI Kanzen Seiha e no Michi (this creates the Holy Trinity of Obligatory Genre Games for a Successful Japanese Console: mahjong, shougi, and horse racing)
