Well I'm glad that all the work I did was useful to someone. To my knowledge this is the only accurate guide for these files. Everything I found didn't explain the monochrome format and they were wrong about the color, they just assumed it worked like other formats.

i royally got fucked by some endian issues but i managed to sort the black and white image too. next up will be actually making these images.

it may be that very soon you can generate the whole package (VMI&VMS) from any image :)

Those look great! Something keeps bothering me however, your first image color 0B is showing as white, did you change the color for testing purposes or did I get something wrong with how the colors are shown?

Actually color one was correct as the value for Alpha was 0, I was too lazy to fix it in my chart. It is the only one that doesn't have the alpha as F

done! had to rewrite some color comparison algorithms but good news it led to some optimization and extra control along th e way :D
