(Hey, you posted while I was writing this... Sorry for the following non sequitur. Edit: Post below this one was originally part of post above.)
It seems the artist for RAH's manual and load screens (I think it's 小澤考, or Kou OZAWA? Name doesn't turn up much on Google...) did artwork for a Fighters Megamix strategy guide, a scan of which can be found on Sega Retro. Each character had a comic book page drawn for the guide (in Engrish), and FM featured Rent-A-Hero as a playable character, so...
(Read from left to right, like English)
I also like the comic for Bark:
I made a small mod for the translation. RAH doesn't look that taxing on the PVR, and I thought it would be possible for it to still run full speed with a resolution increase. So I enabled supersampling, which runs the game at 1280x480 instead of 640x480. This helps get rid of jaggies along vertical edges. It's incomplete, with 2D elements (title screen, text boxes, cloud background) being squashed to the left half of the screen, but the 3D is correct. It mostly runs at 60 FPS, but some areas have consistent slowdown. I disabled shadows on transparent polygons, which helped get rid of most of the slowdown it initially had, and I could probably get rid of most of what remains if I raised the mipmap bias slightly (to have it favor lower resolution mipmaps), but I haven't found a way to do that globally. I also disabled the deflicker filter/vertical blur. I'm probably not going to work on this mod any more than this (and do stuff like fix the 2D), but it might be interesting to try out.
The mod is for the 4:3 ratio version of the translation.
