I know the Microsoft/Xbox brand is weak in Japan... but is Sega's reputation really enough to carry a console? It's not like 95% of people won't know that it's really just a Microsoft "clone"... I mean the internet is a thing.

That's a lot of hype in that press coverage. Frankly, if its "just" a new game like Virtua Fighter 6 or a new Yakuza game or so, I would be very disappointed from the buildup of that hype (even though I love VF). Another mini console would be cool, or heck, if Sega is stamping its name on an xbox, that would be cool in its own way too.

I agree with dark that it's very unlikely to be just a game with all these big words like "revolutionary" being thrown around. I also doubt it's a mini console as that's far from "revolutionary" either.

According to the journalist:

Saying it's as big as the PS5 reveal is quite the buildup. This also makes me wonder if this is Sony-related as it's the day after Sony's PS5 event on June 3rd.

what they REALLY need to do ..since its not going to be a console...is a proper dreamcast collection....not that mess they had on xbox360/ps3.....but a nice 20 or so game collection....maybe add some online multiplayer.....that would be nice

As I said before my vote is for the company tie up on the machine but I also think it could be something else like an exclusive back catalogue deal where all Sega games across all their systems are available on the new XBOX platform up to and including Dreamcast.

It'd be a a pretty big coup if they got the whole Sega back catalogue so it can be emulated on the new machine.

It would also give some of the Japanese otaku a reason to buy an XBOX (albeit perhaps Sega branded) if you can play Panzer Dragoon Saga, Nights, Burning Rangers etc along with all the best from the Dreamcast too.

Probably just fantasy but I like to dream.
