FOUND: A New GD-R of Half-Life Surfaces

Post by DR TEAMCAST »

somebody in the Dreamcast Junkyard facebook group shared this image today
HOLY SHIT.png
He also said:

"My bro is heading out here late July so I'll definitely have an update by the end of July. I'm a retro-gaming nerd and have hacked consoles so I should be able to figure it out. I'll be sure to reach out if I get stuck."

i really hope we get a rip of this quickly. this is huge news

Judging by the date, is this a newer build than the one leaked on the net already?

Hopefully someone here will know if this could indeed be a newer build. Would be cool to see if perhaps it's better optimized for the DC!

This is an older build than the one that's already been leaked. The current one is from May of 2001 (May 23rd to be exact).

If we can find some online feature on this GD, it will open many doors. DC4Ever!

there's still a bunch of stuff that can potentially be in there. a lot can change in a month at a big studio. one thing i'm particularly interested in is a debug menu option that is random russian letters that does nothing, upon inspection in disassembler it looks like its function was deleted

keep in mind its been rumored there was a planned second disc with multiplayer including team fortress classic, very slim chance, but there's a chance it could be something along those lines, who knows until we maybe get a rip

another thing is the release of half life we have currently had its audio downsampled before CDI release and there's absolutely no true rip with the original files of the original GDI or image from katana HDD

A short video of it running was posted on facebook the other day. Besides the windows CE logo at the beginning, nothing different could be seen. Hopefully we get a rip of it so someone can dive into it.

Based on the comments n the way the dude was acting....I felt like he was/is hoping to make a cash grab outta this. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything to come of it.

he got the IP.BIN and is attempting to rip it, but dreamshell SD ripper is less than optimal and crashes

EGA SEGAKATANA SEGA ENTERPRISES9F22 GD-ROM1/1 U A799811 T11001N V0.80020010418 0WINCEOS.BIN SEGA LC-T-110 HALF-LIFE

it looks like v0.8 - 2001\04\18. GD-R is labeled 4/20/2001 so it seems legit. the build we have now is v1.1.3 IIRC and the date is 05/21/2001. so this is more than a month earlier. the release we have had its audio downsampled by the release group in 2003, so this could be a TRUE GDI of half-life after more than 15 years

me and the folks at assemblergames are trying to give him the tools and instructions he needs to do a rip in the next 24-48 hours
https://assemblergames.com/threads/help ... ard.69632/

i really hope we get this rip, as it seems to be legit

here is his video of it running

cross your fingers folks
