Hello,
I dont think picopsu will fix that
You can use a powered usb hard drive with external power source, but the usb wont give you enough power.

Re: [USB GDROM] Troubleshooting & Firmware updates
Oh ok, thanks
I did the PicoPSu mod anyway but my Dreamcast VA0 after a few minutes turns off.
Even the PSU led turns off.
Almost like a short cirtcuit.
My Pico PSU was advertised as 120w and I'm using a 12v5a power supply.
Could this be the dreamcast using too much current on the 3.3v line?

Could be, not sure...
But rebooting etc could also be caused because of a bad battery.
Did you replace the battery in the Dreamcast?

Re: [USB GDROM] Troubleshooting & Firmware updates
Hello All,
I have a really quick question for you. I am trying to update USB GDROM to the latest 2018 firmware.
My Dreamcast is showing Firmware Update... and that has been there for the last 10 minutes. Is this normal ? Thanking you guys all in advance.

You got the latest update from his website?mxpx78 wrote:Hello All,

From which version are you comming?
Because I have heard some issues by skipping USB-GDROM_fw_17-09-05 before upgrading to the latest.
But keep it on for a 30 - 40 minutes maximum... after that first try above firmware before going to the latest.

Re: [USB GDROM] Troubleshooting & Firmware updates
Thank you for the quick response. I downloaded the firmware from his website.
I am upgrading from version 17/11/08 which was on my USB GDROM when I first got it.
I let the update go for about 15 minutes and shut down my Dreamcast. Everything is still working fine but the firmware did not update. I am not sure I want to try updating it again

No problem!
Do you have any games that won't run correctly?
If you don't have any issues there are not many reasons to upgrade except for the different background color or the menu

Re: [USB GDROM] Troubleshooting & Firmware updates
Hello everyone. I seem to be having the same issue as mxpx78. When selecting the update, the screen just says "Firmware Update..." forever and doesn't actually do anything. The light on my drive goes off after a few seconds which means it isn't reading anything off the drive anymore. Has anyone been successful in updating? I guess I really don't need to but I kind of want the black background.

You might try a different usb drive and see if that worksjcreazy wrote:Hello everyone. I seem to be having the same issue as mxpx78. That did the trick. It's nuts how picky this thing is.
Also, there is a recycle bin file and system volume information folder on my external drive. I am guessing those have to be there? They won't go away if I try to delete them in Windows.
