Open Source RPG's for Dreamcast?
Counting only released homebrews (even incomplete games), what are some RPG's for Dreamcast? I'm trying to find something with an open source game engine already designed for RPG's so that I can mod it to make my own Dreamcast RPG. Thanks!

Re: Homebrew / Open Source RPG's for Dreamcast?
Mh, well, not sure if you would count Zelda games as RPG's they are more action games really, but there were some awesome Zelda fan games ported over by one of the members of Dreamcast.es named Neoblast. I believe it was a trilogy of games all released on the same engine.

The download still works for it on that page, but I am having trouble finding the others. The source code is there for the game though so maybe it is modable to your liking?!
A recent indie game was Zia and the goddess of magic and is a really charming little 2d RPG.

Also, I can't forget but there is the Titan Game Engine which is very versatile for Dreamcast 2D homebrew games and has a lot of different templates made as well.

Re: Homebrew / Open Source RPG's for Dreamcast?
Thanks for the useful information!
I hadn't heard of Zelda: Return Of The Hylian before now. It seems only the first of the trilogy was ever ported to Dreamcast according to what I could find online. However this game / engine looks like it might be an excellent starting point for creating a new RPG that can run on computers and consoles such as the Dreamcast!
Zia and the Goddess of Magic might be a good game, but I'm afraid it doesn't have an open source engine, so it wouldn't be useful for a third-party such as myself who is looking to create a new RPG.
I have tried using the Titan Game Engine, but alas, it is too early of a project to be useful for making RPG's. You see, while I appreciate what the developer is trying to do (making a friendlier front-end to KallistiOS so that people can more easily make Dreamcast games), and it is a laudable goal, the software is currently not developed enough to be very useful.
For example, if you can get the Titan IDE 0.6 to work, then if you try to make an RPG, then the most which the RPG template is capable of is making an image appear on the VMU, painting the ground with walkable and non-walkable tiles, and walking your character around them. That's it. You can't add more characters, enemies, treasure, weapons, fights, dialogues, menus, saving and loading progress, or anything else to the "game." You can't even make a winnable game unless you are making a walking simulator that doesn't even show a "You Win!" message when you reach the end of the map. Even the documentation is sparse and tutorials are few. Perhaps one day Titan IDE will reach the point where it can be used to make complete, full-featured games, but it is not there yet.
However, all of this info is helpful in finding my way to creating a new video game for the Dreamcast!

Re: Open Source RPG's for Dreamcast?
Edit: Maybe I am mistaken? I just looked and I seen a thread where he mentioned he PLANNED to do all 3, but started work on the 2nd one and it ran out of memory on the DC and he was working on trying to fix it, but he seems to have stopped posting updates for it.

I could get 2 and 3 working.. ive ported the game engine with the latest kos updates.. anyways.. I have 3 running.. not memory problem but a c++ problem for me.. the maps are all wrong .. Edit i ported the first one from the linux src it uses midi files and it had the same map problems. you get stuck in the grass lol.. No sound i had to redo all the controls as it was using Chui SDL.. we dont have that for new kos..

Yeah I was mistaken. Oh well, guess it is too much for the DC to handle memory-wise.
