4X Memory card not working!

So i bought 2 4x memory card from FleaBay and they arrived today.

One of them seems to work fine and is recognized in the Dreamcast file menu. The other one shows up in said menu but it has a red circle with an X in it where it shows the icon of the VMU. I have tried to delete and sort of format it in this menu but all i get is a red circle with an X in.

Is there a workaround for this or will i have to return it as faulty?

Can't you format it?anyway do a try with the dreamexplorer, it's a utility that let's you erase or defragment a memory card, although defrag is really useless, you can find it here

https://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmutool/rel ... en&menu=on

If neither the reset in the memory manager nor dreamexplorer works i guess it's faulty then...

No dice on the VMU TOOL.

When i try to reformat the card it says no blocks found and when i try to de-fragment it the system feezes.

looks like i will have to return it. Bummer

No, it was a 3rd party (Topway 4mb Blue) one.

Ah yes. Never trust third-party memory cards. You're probably lucky it was DOA. Better that than starting to save things to it and losing it all one day.
PSO Characters:
Teal'c - lvl 119 HUcast - GC# 11666
Alto - lvl 39 FOnewm - GC# 12964

Are they really that bad?

I have over a hundred games on my sd cards and i would need about 20 VMU's to be able to save on each game. I have had a 2mb one for a while now and it has been fine tbh.

Is there a way to backup saves onto other media like the sd card?

It really depends on the card TBH. I never had problems with the official 4X card. However, I had an 8X card that loved to kill data, especially when paired with a jump pack.
PSO seems to be the thing to keep away from with multibank cards. I lost more characters to those things than getting NOLed on Oberon 1.
My best friend back in the day had a jumppack/memcard combo unit that also liked to kill PSO data.
However I had some 2X cards that I used a lot for NES/SNES Emulation as well as DOOM saves that never deleted saves or crashed on me.
