Hacking light gun games for mouse support

Hi all. Something that has been on my mind for a while. Is it possible to hack the light gun games for mouse support? I assume it's not straightforward if possible at all, or it would have been done. But, we have a lot of very clever people on here, so thought I'd bring it up. I don't have, or have space for, a CRT any more, but the light gun titles just aren't particularly fun with a controller!

Love to hear your thoughts.
