Is it possible to import a GIF to use as an animated VMU icon?

Hi, Dreamcast newbie here. All I'm asking is, would it be possible to compress an animated GIF so it could be used as a moving image in the VMU's screen?

It's not possible, you can only use static images. For a moving image it would require software to be running on the Dreamcast (or as a VMU app) that switches between static images (or frames in a GIF, if you will).
