Hello folks!
Well, I've been planning and reworking the original script of Tahi into a game format. Now, I have a question for all of you here in this forum. It's a simple question but you must back it up with evidence.
This is the question...
To you, what makes an RPG great and memorable. What are some past experiences that you have had with an RPG that have stuck with you forever?
The more responses I get, the better! but remember, please support your answer with as much detail as possible.
This will help us out in gearing up Tahi to make it as MEMORABLE as possible!
Thank you all!

Suzuki's genre title, "FREE" (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment) based on the interactivity and freedom he wanted to give to the player. That’s something you don't get in much games.
What ever was you're first image of the game was stay true to yourself and all well follow.

Yeah, what he said. Freedom. But dont let the player be bored with too much freedom, make most actions have some consequences, no matter what their importance are. But some consequences.
Like for instance Fable 2, you can go inside all houses. Thats a good thing. But you get tired of it quite quickly. You have the felling you waste time when you realize you did done that or not, it has no consequence on the game. And theres nothing that makes you keep doing it.
Honestly i couldnt think of any example that could fix this example. But my point is: a good rpg game shouldnt have freedom; but balanced.
Like in shenmue, you can go to shops and stuff. Talk to the guy whos selling. And you can buy, like in real life. Thats a great application of freedom in a game.
I hope that helps.

Thank you folks!
Great suggestions thus far.
It will definitely have our own feel that is for sure, I've been carefully planning out the layouts, feel, controls and plot very, very carefully.
It will have an open feeling to it, kind of like Elder Scrolls - Morrowind, however not too open. It would best be described as if Zelda Ocarina of Time met Morrowind in exploration standards.
So you would be able to explore most places but not all.
Also, just as a heads up, I will be online in the chat room here in the forums, beginning at 10pm Pacific Time if anyone has any questions or comments, hop on in and ask away!

Frank:
Thank you very much for the updates on Tahi. I'm glad to hear you guys are trucking along.
I like Dr.Pariolo's suggestion. Allow some freedom to explore. It depends on what the story of the game is. But, I could still give an example. Morrowind seems like a good example. My example would be from an mmorpg. Have camps/towns/cities where you can rest, buy items, get quests, etc. Then have instanced Areas to explore that would be accessible from the towns. Then you could travel to new towns and new areas, etc. I guess the areas wouldn't have to be instanced but it's just an example.
I also think realism is something gamers look for in rpg's. Realism is pretty self explanatory... I know the Dreamcast can only go so far, but even subtle touches matter. Once the story and direction of the game unfold im sure many of us will have detailed suggestions. I know I will.
I'll be in the chat room.

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
On the mmorpg game called Runescape you have total freedom. There is no end to the game becuase you can keep adding experiance and leveling up and completing quests. I think it would be a good Idea to update the game with either online downloads or vmu save becuase you can add more quests skills etc. and maybe some user generated content. I think it would also think it would be great if you could have some online play to it. But if you do that you might have to make a pc version becuase of a lack of dreamcasts online. One bad thing about runescape is that like Dr. Parialo said it gets boring after while.

you should make this a mmorpg, I'm pretty sure we'll be happy to run the servers ourselves

Thats an even better Idea I would buy that. If you are going to make it an mmorpg I think it would be a good idea you make a pc version so you can get a wider audience.

Frank said online functions might be added to a second episode of the game, that if the first one is successful.

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
It sounds like a big task, I'm wondering why you didn't any of the big companies in the Dreamcast days do more of that sort of thing there is a couple million players on most online games
I'd love to see that brought to the Dreamcast at this stage but I think if the company focuses too much on the online side it will forget about the story of the game if this series is a success off-line and it catches the eyes of the media
