Hi, the gun is only working when it is plugged into port 4, is anyone has the same trouble ?

So I am able enter the system menu and cycle through using the start button but I cannot access any menus. I only have this issue with the extreme hunting games. The sega sports shoot type games I can access using the B button. What button is needed for extreme hunting I feel like this is obvious and I'm just missing it.
