Hello all. I received a Dreamcast today. Getting back into the scene having owned one at launch, then selling the collection in 2011.
The one I got on eBay came with South Park Rally. That's all I own currently. I was playing it and the system runs fine. No crashing, no difficulty loading. It functions great. But the game sucks. And my USB-GD isn't set to arrive until the end of the month.
So I thought... I'll break out my Taiyo Yuden CDRs which I've never used, and burn some games.
I download and burn Elemental Gimmick Gear. From the DC Revive Project - a self-booting CDI image (filename: [CDI] Elemental Gimmick Gear (US)[RDC].7z). I used ImgBurn to burn it at 8x.
The game boots to the Sega screen, showing the Revive logo, then crashes to the menu screen. I then burned a Utopia Disc, thinking this would fix it, but it refuses even to recognise the disc inside as being a Dreamcast game!
What am I doing wrong here?
* Is because the DC battery is dead and I need to keep resetting the time?
* Is it the Taiyo Yuden CDRs? Are they bad? They were from the manufacturer before they stopped making them (slight blue surface, white on top), circa 2015.
* Is it because E.G.G. is an American game and my DC is PAL?
* Could it be a bad burn - is ImgBurn bad?
* Are the CDIs of DC Revive Project known to do this?
I don't feel like wasting a bunch of TY discs trying to figure it out. This isn't 2003 when good quality CDRs were commonplace.

As I mentioned in the other post you put up about this, you may need to rule out a bad download.
to answer your points:
*shound't matter about battery being dead as far as I'm aware.
*Could be the cdr's... or even that particular cdr.
*burned games cross regions no issue. it won't be that. I had plenty of Jap/USA/Pal games on my Pal and Jpn systems and they worked fine.
*could be a bad burn.
*RDC rips aren't known for failing due to their own quality standards. they'd never knowingly put out a bad rip.
You might not feel like wasting some discs.. but I think you're going to have to roll the dice on this to see what the issue is.
It could be a bad download, bad extraction, bad burn, bad disc, too fast a burn.
Try d/l it again see if it happens.
try another game see if it happens.
try another disc see if it happens.
You'll never solve this without burning more discs unfortunately. Good luck.

Might be able to load the game up in an emulator before you burn might rule out a bad download or a bad unzip

Both of my casts demand burn ala DJ and even @ 24x write speed
Every time I've ImgBurnt for Dreamcast has been a crapshoot, jus me
