On to the software. The Dreampi 1.7 DLE image for some reason hangs on boot or will refuse to boot. So there is an alternative method I saw mentioned somewhere using berryboot to load images. This one works perfectly for me.
You'll need a Raspberry Pi 400 with a micro HDMI and power (mouse optional). A minimum 8gb micro SD card and a flash drive of a minimum 8gb as well for good measure.
You're going to need to download berryboot here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/berryboot/

You're also going to need the berryboot image of Dreampi 1.7 DLE found here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/berryb ... erry-Pi-4/

I'll attach a video of how to load berry boot and the image:
***Rather then loading any other OS (for the purpose of this guide) skip any of the downloads in the video and use the Dreampi 1.7 DLE image loaded above.***

Boot the image, connect your pi to your router and your USB modem and play away. I know this may be more steps than usual for a standard Pi B model but since I didn't have access to one and the WiFi performance of the zero w's bugged me, this method helped me out to connect a wired connection while saving some money on overpriced pi's. Also I didn't find any other guide on how to with the RPi400 so I hope it helps someone else
