Re: Most Beautiful Games On Dreamcast
Cant really say I have a prefered one in terms of looks but I really like the look of games like Shenmue and Sega Rally 2. Can't really explain it but I really like the way 3D games on the Dreamcast look in general. I should also mention Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, the animations are outdated on the first one but the characters, envorioment and everything is really good looking imo. Cant really explain it bu yeah, expecially on HD, these games for instance look really good

I've always loved the splash of water ("sploosh!") in the intro of Sports Jam, it's beautiful.
...but then the game show host guy appears looking like a horror show. Such a jarring contrast!

But I'm planning to do so soon.

Re: Most Beautiful Games On Dreamcast
There are lots of DC games with lovely art design, PSO, Jet Set, many others named here. But Under Defeat is the one whose bomb explosions still make me go, "oh damn!" in 2023. So good!

Re: Most Beautiful Games On Dreamcast
Some of my favorite looking games (I tried to find decent videos, iPlaySega on YouTube has many).
F355 Challenge (the intro shows it nicely but the course at the timestamp is sweet) https://youtu.be/9RkU9anyKlw?t=1166
Dead or Alive 2 (the improved Japanese ver/all are on par with the best PS2 fighters in polycounts etc.) https://youtu.be/y1F-kWiM71k
Crazy Taxi 2 (this challenge goes all over showing variety/density/vastly improved from 1 pop in) https://youtu.be/RydiOSJazj0?t=816
RE Code: Veronica (or X now it's been fan patched to English for DC as well) https://youtu.be/D2a2UDEL738?t=337
Propeller Arena (I don't enjoy the game itself for long but the planes, effects and stages look sweet) https://youtu.be/9JsRHC8-qcs
The House of the Dead 2 (what a launch title for genre fans, it beats any Model 3 shooter) https://youtu.be/SxkO7qmnjh8?t=176
Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram (what's there to say, a perfect Model 3 port) https://youtu.be/UltVe7L1-WA
Sakura Taisen 4 (3 looks as good and is the better game as 4 is a homage/send off but dat intro) https://youtu.be/A59eFpQyF_g?t=121
Skies of Arcadia (the intro at the start shows it best but check out those waves here) https://youtu.be/McFM5HoYurU?t=5231
Le Mans 24 Hours (watch this as a short le mans race going through varied time of day/weather) https://youtu.be/qNuHsNymLtY?t=211
When looking for Dreamcast footage you must be mindful of the state of the hardware (or emulation which I avoid posting - I only don't know if the Sakura Taisen 4 video is on a real Dreamcast as it's hard to find decent footage). A DOA2 video I replaced, either due to a worn drive or because of a modded Dreamcast with loading speed issues as some drive replacements have, often paused the image while taking longer than normal to load. It both looked wrong and the music got desynced so the last intro part was silent. Here's Crazy Taxi with even worse issues in contrast to the above excellent footage of 2 https://youtu.be/UN1QtQqYLPc
Loads more games look great. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, 4 Wheel Thunder, Maken X StarLancer is a rare awesome WIndows CE based game (I wish we had more ports like that, some MechWarrior or Battlezone of that era), Zero Gunner 2 & Under Defeat (I like the former more honestly, stylistically and in gameplay), MDK2 (better than any version until the recent HD remasters), Confidential Mission, the Shenmues (duh), Aero Dancing i (all look great but they all had improvements to show and that is the best third game - it also has an expandalone disc like 2 got in Japan), Gundam Federation vs Zeon & Side Story 0079 Rise from the Ashes, Project Justice & Soulcalibur, Ecco, Grandia II, Jet Set Radio, Phantasy Star Online, Daytona USA (best home Daytona release imo, plays as good as the original but with much more content), Virtua Striker 2, Virtua Tennis 2, D2 and so much more!
Also, for all the trash talking Dreamcast gets over PlayStation ports, it had a truly transformative effect on some, V-Rally looks amazing!

Re: Most Beautiful Games On Dreamcast
Are those Aero Dancing 2+3 expandalone releases good on their own having everything? Or should have the base 2+3 games too?

Re: Most Beautiful Games On Dreamcast
You need the base games to get through them and have tutorials and missions etc., the expansion discs only have the extra content contrary to what Sega Retro says calling them upgraded versions of the games or whatever. I guess if you just wanna check them out (or check their exclusive content) rather than intend to play them fully you can get the expansion discs.mistamontiel wrote:Are those Aero Dancing 2+3 expandalone releases good on their own having everything?
