I refused to buy the 360 or the PS3 because not only do I have a deep hatred of M$ (something which does conflict with my love of the DC, given its CE based OS), but I refuse to spend over £100 on a console. Given the dodgy nature of the two top contenders this seems to have benefitted me.
A second hand PSP is just about below £50. If it goes below £30 I may consider getting one.
Regarding sports games, the "improve slightly, update teams and rerelease" strategy seems to be working out well for my dad. I gave him a gamecube recently, and all he plays is soccer games. So since the market is flooded with second hand games that were traded in because they hold last seasons player names, he can get Redcard, ISS & FIFA games for a pound a pop!
I do have a Wii, but thats at the insistence of my fiancee. And to be honest if I can have something that will play GC games hooked up to my TV, that is a bonus (my regular GC is relegated to a storage drawer at the mo). And some of the games are fun, good for when you're p!55ed up, but not for serious gaming.
There is a signature I use at other forums that justifies any comments people give me regarding my use of older consoles..
"Dreamcast at car boot sale - £4
Quake 3 disc from 2nd hand shop - £3
Dreamcast Keyboard and mouse - £8
42" LCD TV - £400
Having an awesome old school Quake 3 gaming rig - Priceless!"
DC FTW
