Any recommendations/tips/videos for soldering? I've watched a few videos but can never seem to solder properly - always seem to heat up far too much solder.
Looking to desolder the CMOS battery in my DC

Re: Soldering
It's OK if de-soldering is a bit hotter, maybe even easier. You will need to partner up with a wick or pump to remove the liquid metal.
I personally use a wick. It's pretty simple. Mash the hot iron on the braided copper, and watch it soak up the solder.

For sodlering, you should be heating the pin, and feeding the solder to the base. Just beware of bad joints and dry joints.

The controller board mods are a great beginner project. CMOS battery, controller fuse, and LED. When you are successful, hopefully it will give you more confidence for future projects.
